A common question

Why buy bonds instead of a money market fund?

A money market fund's return moves every day. A T-bill or bond tells you upfront what it will pay, and when.

Your return is locked in

You know your yield the day you buy. If interest rates fall later, you keep the rate you bought. A fund's return falls with them.

Hold to maturity, get the full amount

Bond prices move in the market, but if you hold to maturity you receive the full face value, whatever the price did in between. Nothing is marked to market against you.

Real cash flow

Bonds pay coupons into your account on set dates, and T-bills pay out at maturity. A fund pays nothing out; you have to sell units to get cash.

Worth knowing: if you sell before maturity you get the market price, which can be higher or lower than what you paid. Funds are easier to cash out at short notice.

Questions

What is AGYAL?

AGYAL (أجيال, "generations") is an app we're building so investors in Egypt and across the Arab world can buy Egyptian government bonds, T-bills, sukuk and high-grade corporate bonds from their phone.

Is AGYAL open yet?

Not yet. We're signing up partners and preparing the launch. Join the waitlist and you'll be among the first to get access.

Are the yields on this page guaranteed?

No. They are recent indicative yields, before taxes and fees, shown so you can see what Egyptian fixed income pays. The price you get will depend on the market when you invest.

How do T-bills and bonds pay me?

A T-bill pays once: you buy it below face value and get the full face value at maturity. A bond pays a coupon on fixed dates (usually every 6 months) and returns your principal with the last coupon. Each rate above has its own page with the full payment schedule.

Who will hold my investments?

AGYAL will work only with licensed brokers and banks in Egypt, who will hold the securities in your name. We'll share full details before launch.

Do I need to live in Egypt?

Eligibility will depend on our partners and on Egyptian regulations. Join the waitlist with your country code and we'll tell you what's available to you.
